I make money on the Internet in my free time (literally). It’s not rocket science. Read on to know my story and how I can give you a headstart. I strongly advise you to read my section on Affiliate Marketing first.

An Amazing Thing Called the Internet

I’ve not talked much about myself on this blog, besides for a little about me page tucked in a corner. However, for the purpose of this amazing thing I’m going to offer to you, I would like to talk to you about the Internet.

I was there when the Internet starting catching on in my country and the rest of the world.

I was in my teens and this glorified world I found in a little monitor fascinated me. In the blink of an eye I could actually find information for school homework without needing to go to a public library and look at physical books. Soon, Internet connections became faster, and I found that I no longer needed to buy cassette tapes (I’m not old but not that young either) or CDs, because I could simply download high quality MP3 files of my favourite songs and play them on my computer. At a time when I was young and clueless, I didn’t know much about copyright law. In any case, everyone was downloading songs like crazy, reveling in this new found wonder called the Internet.

Soon, Internet connections became even better, and it reached a point where people could simply download entire full length movies from the Internet. It was both shocking and amazing. This thing called the Internet, which creeped into the lives of millions around the world, was threathening the existence of physical goods that you once thought would be here to stay for eternity. Cassettes tapes, CDs, VCDs, DVDs. All of these media can be delivered via the Internet into your computer more and more easily as technology and Internet speeds skyrocket.

Needless to say, the Internet became a fearsome competitor for all kinds of traditional physical consumer goods that grew to include not just music and movies. Books, newspapers training materials, print media, advertising, games.

From just 16 million users in 1995, the number of Internet users have exploded to to more than 2,000 million (as of 2010). What does this mean?

There is a Lot of Money to Be Made on the Internet.

With so many people using the Internet, the money you can make from these people is virtually limitless. Cynics say that the bubble has burst and it’s no long easy to make money on the Internet. There ‘cynics’ belong to two groups – the pessimist who refuses to try and wallows in self-pity, and the outright selfish liar who wants a bigger share of the pie for himself/herself, when in reality the pie is every-increasing because of how fast the Internet is growing.

Pardon my offroad bluntless, but ever so often the fat woman Googles for ‘easy weight loss techniques’ and chances upon an affiliate marketer selling a weightloss eBook or miracle pills. She buys the product and wham, the affiliate who was sound asleep at 3am has $50 credited into his bank account while his website does the work for him. He didn’t even have to put the book into an envelope and mail it to the woman, because his role was just to refer a sale and redirect her to the merchant’s website, where they handle everything.

Richard, a rich businessman with a competitive streak is the target of jibes from friends who think he sucks at golf. Not willing to let this go down, he searches on the Internet for tips on how to improve his swing. He strays into an affiliate site with a product that claims to be able to help him beat his friends and WHAM! Another affiliate makes $60 from referring the sale of a supposedly special kind of glove that helps him swing more accurately.

I Want a Piece of the Pie!

At one point I decided I won’t just sit around and let this chance roll by without getting a chunk of it. Logically there is money to be made, and I poured all my energies into finding out about this wonderful thing called Affiliate and Internet Marketing. Of course, I had to pour through the ‘Get Rich Quick’ scams and half-truths. Learning, discovering, making mistakes and fine-tuning ways to make money online as I sift through the tons of material on the Internet. Naturally, people who were already successful in this business were also making money teaching people how to be good marketers. I paid good money for the guidance of these people, and bought many materials that taught me a lot that I needed to know. It was both a fun and exhilarating experience. As of now, I am making money from various websites via networks like AdSense and marketing a wide range of affiliate products. I am also glad and proud to announce that my investments in these training materials (eBooks and videos) have since paid for themselves (and much more).

How Do You Get Started?

You might have read my reviews on training materials like The Affiliate Code or Auto Content Cash. Training products like these give you a nice overview and starting guide to the world of making money on the Internet. These products consist of videos and eBooks properly structured and paced to give the beginner or intermediate Internet marketing a good kickstart. These products are good investments because it beats wasting lots of time scouring the Internet for bits and pieces of scattered information, and trying to figure out the best way to make money. Although these products are good, it is not possible to build a single strong business model and sure-fire ‘one size fits all’ way to make good money from just ONE product. The Internet is constantly changing and so are consumer patterns. The Affiliate Code or Auto Content Cash are excellent ways to get you started, but there are many other facets like lead-generation, list building, traffic-generation, copywriting, social-media tactics and consumer mechanics that come into play. You need to be moderately educated in all of these, and once you build a strong foundation in these areas, making obscene amounts of money will come as second-nature to you.

Training Materials Are Too Expensive!

Many novice marketers give up because they quickly become frustrated at their lack of initial success. They jump on the bandwagon without knowing what they are getting into. Internet Marketing can potentially make you lots of money, but without the proper knowledge and education it becomes a wild goose chase. The initial investment they put into Internet Marketing fails to pay for itself and they give up altogether. Many get burnt because there is too much to learn, and individual training packages cost too much for you to properly acquire all the knowledge you need. On the other hand, many free Internet Marketing resources on the Internet are a mish-mash of junk and theoretical fluff. Quality training and advice comes at a price because of the time and effort put in to produce them.

A good mix of quality training resources that can get you started on a good foot, when bought individually can cost up to thousands of dollars. When bought individually from the original publishers, each product will cost anything between $20 – $80, and this price is for only one product. No problem if you are filthy rich to start off with. Most beginners are not. Also, what these people do not know is this – some of these quality products they have bought can be sold to other aspiring learners. This is because some products have resell rights or in some cases ‘Master Resell Rights’ or MRR. However, it is difficult to sell to others because many other people are desperately selling MRR products (might as well since you can make some money back off your initial investment). Also, many people are pricing these products at premium prices, even though they are digital product. I personally find that this makes no sense because digital products have no overheads. You can simply email an eBook or video to someone for free at no cost. Of course, few people would do this if there isn’t any incentive. However, you would certainly make more sales if you priced them much cheaper. Click on my offer below to find out more!

Certain jailbreaks are not wholy stable and personally I’ve encountered the dreaded ‘Error 14′ while trying to restore my iPhone OS. If you had the same problem as I did, take these steps and you’ll be on your way to a clean, unblemished OS.

Disconnect your iPhone from your computer.

Browse to your user profile and go into Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes.

Delete both iTunePrefs.xml and iPodDevices.xml.

Go back to AppData and go to Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates.

Delete any file inside here.

Connect your iPhone to the computer.

Click restore in iTunes.

Follow restore instructions as per normal.

The error 14 thing shouldn’t appear again.

Many of the world’s toys are manufactured in China. Labor is very cheap in China and factories in the country manufacture millions of toys a year. Many of those toys are exported out of the country and imported into the U.S, Canada and countries in Europe. Retailers from around the world recognize the profit potential of importing toys from China. Toys made in China can be purchased by foreign retailers for a fraction of the cost that they would pay for toys manufactured in other countries. Retailers will want to make sure they do their research and understand the logistics of importing before purchasing toys from China.

Research the Toy Market

Thousands of different types of toys are manufactured in China every year. If it’s toys that you want to import from China, you must determine exactly what toys you want to sell. Consider if you want to specialize in selling toys for babies or toys for older children. You will also want to consider if you want to purchase name brand toys or if you want more generic toys. Name brand toys will often sell better but are more expensive.

Choose a Supplier

It can be difficult to choose a Chinese manufacturing company when you are based in anther country. You will need to either make a trip to China to do the research yourself or you will need to hire an in-country agent to do the work for you. If you do not speak Chinese, it is often in your best interest to hire an agent based in China that speaks the language. Have the agent research different suppliers and obtain detailed information about products they manufacture, prices, shipping policies and quality of products. Dealing with a manufacturer that produces inferior toys will cost you a lot of time and money down the road.

Place a Toy Order

Before you place an order, you will want to request toy samples. You will want to know exactly what you are getting before you place an order. You will also want to make sure you agree upon the shipping and payment terms before placing an order. Many manufacturers will require you to make a 30% down payment when you order toys. You will pay the remaining balance when you receive your shipment. You will want to make sure you request a detailed invoice with your order. The invoice should include pertinent information including items ordered, price and shipping costs.

Receive Your Order

It is your responsibility as the retailer to make sure you are familiar with customs requirements. The toys need to meet certain safety requirements before they will be allowed into the country. You may want to hire a forwarder and a customs brokerage house to take care of this process for you. You will also want to have your goods inspected upon arrival to make sure they have been manufactured properly.

Importing toys from China can be a good way for retailers to keep costs low and make a greater profit. Retailers will want to make sure they choose a reputable manufacturer, review customs requirements and have toys inspected for quality when they receive them.

As mentioned earlier, a lot of webmasters want people to post on their forums so they appear popular and busy. Most of them time these webmasters hire just one person, but there is a drawback if you hire just one poster. The posting styles are similar and there is a great lack of dynamism in the posts, which more often than not come across as robotic and artificial. If you can pool together a team of 7 to 10 posters and offer them a service that makes their forum activity look ‘real’, you can offer more value to these webmasters who may be more inclined to sign up for your service.

As usual, to advertise your service, you will need a website. To get forum posters, you can easily look for them on freelancing sites or by looking on forums where people are interested in working, like ‘work-at-home’ websites. How much money you will make largely depends on how much you decide to charge the webmaster and how much to pay your forum posters, but you can easily hit $100 a day you if you enough clients.

There are a lot of people who are interested in buying over existing websites. The reasons for this are that already established sites with a huge mass of existing regular visitings are easier to build up and monetise than starting a fresh website community from scratch. As a result, established and good websites can fetch a tidy sum for the person selling the website. A lot of people are interested in selling their websites, but do not know how. This is where money can be made!

As a website broker, you can connect buyers and sellers and take a commission for making the introductions. In order to make money online being a website broker, you can create a website detailing what you do and how you can help buyers and sellers. As people start contacting you to help, set up a buyer/seller directory on your site so people can browse the available listings. Take caution not to put the contact details of the seller on your website, because people can bypass your commission and contact the seller directly. Just have some general details on it.

Now start looking for people interested in buying or selling sites. You can find these people by going to existing website flipping sites like Flippa.com, SiteSell.com or BuySellWebsite.com. It doesn’t matter if people are already listed on these websites because they can always use additional help.

Do not give out important detail to buyers until you get them to sign paperwork that prevents them from bypassing your commission. When the deal is closed, collect a commission out of the profits.

You can make anything from $100 to millions of dollars depending on how much authority the site has (how important it is).

There are many organisations and companies on there who offer lucrative incentives for people who recruit new employees for them. If you are in touch with or know people in the recruitment business, you can act as a freelancer and find this an easy way to make money. It is entirely possible to find potential recruits and prospects for companies using the Internet.

More often than not, most companies have employee referral programs, meaning you have lots of ample chances to recruit for a multitude of different companies. If you are unsure if a company offers recruitment referral incentives, simply give them a call to clarify. In fact, you can even start with your own company if you are currently employed.

Find people within your social circle or network that are currently looking for a job. Go online on freelancing sites like Elance.com, Guru.com and Odesk.com to check out the profiles of people there to see if they fit your recruitment needs. Talk to people who sound good and ask if they are interested in securing a job.

Refer these people to the HR people of the company you are helping, and you will get paid if they are hired. To scale this up, build relationships with external recruiters who do this on a full-time basis. If you do this, you can amass a huge list of job openings from them and this can turn out to be immensively lucrative in the long run.

The amount of money you can make can range anywhere from $50 to thousands of dollars depending on the position filled as well as varying from company to company.

Infolinks

We’ve all heard that Google AdSense is a good way for beginners to monetise their blogs, but few people have heard ot Infolinks, a contextual advertising network that allows website/blog owners to benefit from in Text ads, alongside their AdSense revenue. How Infolinks works is by automatically turning some of your blogged keywords into links that point to advertisers’ websites. For some reason, the click-through rate (the frequency of visitors clicking these links) are much higher than AdSense ads (at least for me). Perhaps the primary reason is because people are so used to Google Ads that they simply ignore them and visually filter them out when surfing websites. Contextual text links, on the other hand, are less spammy if you use them well. Perhaps this is morally grey, but more often than not, people tend to accidentally click on in-text links because they may mistake them for normal content links. However, once they click on these Infolink links, you have earned the revenue. Grey? Yes. Effective? Absolutely. You should expect much more clicks using Infolinks as compared to AdSense. However, the revenue per click I have personally experienced is much lower than my AdSense clicks. All factors balancing out, Infolinks is a good addition to your blog and you should see increased earnings alongside Google’s AdSense.

MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad

Paying it forward to the developers of MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad, I’m now giving a review of this wonderful WordPress plugin. Look right at the top of my blog, and you should see a recently added green stripe. This green stripe is plastered with rotating affiliate links to quality products that I personally use and highly recommend. In the past, my affiliate links were peppered over normal blog posts, and you would only see it if you visit the relevant blog post about the product. For example, a product I’ve been promoting is Hummingbird 2, a product that lets anyone quickly gain tons of targetted Twitter followers within a very short time. I’ve inserted affiliate links in my review on this blog post called How to Get Lots of Twitter Followers. While I’ve made a number of sales through this review, the hard fact is that this blog post has very low visibility. Casual surfers to my root domain (http://www.sell-stuff-online.com) may not surf to How to Get Lots of Twitter Followers, and read my review. However, this does not mean that they have no interest in the product. Perhaps all they needed was a little spurring on and you would have made the affiliate sale. A pity they did not see your very enticing review! This is where MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad comes in. No matter which page your visitor is on, you can now rotationally display affiliate links to products, or even links to internal posts (pre-sale reviews if you don’t want to be too pushy). This gives your promoted products much more visibility, thus increasing revenue for yourself in the long run.

Simple Link Cloaker

Let’s face it – Internet users are much smarter than they used to be. They are highly sensitive to advertising and are aware of what affiliate marketing is. They are much more wary when reading product reviews and hesistant to buy a product, especially now that they know internet marketers earn commissions from recommending products. Of course, a huge slew of internet marketers are just out to make money, and care nothing about the product they are promoting. In many cases, marketers do not even own the product they are promoting. Hence, Internet users find it hard to trust product reviews, especially when the link to the product looks something like http://product.referralID?21321. This is an example of an uncloaked affiliate link. Surfers nowadays can recognise such links easily and some actually make it a point not to buy via affiliate links. Some are actually interested in buying a product, but deliberately decide not to give you your commission by going straight to the product website (since they can see the actual site’s URL by looking at your affiliate link). Yes, people do this. Simple Link Cloaker is a WordPress plugin that allows you to easily ‘cloak’ your affiliate links. For example, my uncloaked affiliate link to Auto Content Cash is http://d181cemlx9tei573-o1buf0bwy.hop.clickbank.net. Holy shit! People are ULTRA SENSITIVE to Clickbank affiliate links these days. Thankfully with Simple Link Cloaker, my Auto Content Cash link is now changed to http://www.sell-stuff-online.com/acc.

How do YOU monetise your blog more efficiently? Leave a comment for others to learn from!

Banner Grids

Another way to increase visibility of your affiliate products is to have them in banner grids. You have to be smart with the screen space you have, so don’t fill up your entire page with huge clunky ugly banner ads. People get turned off easily by such sites and it could hurt your income. Instead, have a neatly arrange grid of small banner ads that communicate effectively what the product is about. For example, right now I have three 125 x 125 pixel banner ads with affiliate links to products that I’ve promoting. A grid of equally-sized banners ensures that your ads don’t look too spammy and cluttered. Of course, if you are going to be promoting products, it is generally wise to have blog posts that review these products. Or else it’s going to seem like you just picked random products to promote. Make sure you promote only quality products and back this up in your reviews with your experiences with the product. For example, I am using Host Gator for this blog, loving it, and have no qualms about proudly displaying Host Gator’s banner in my grid. Note that as of this writing I only have 3 square banners in my grid. I’ll be ramping this up to a 2 x 3 grid, making a total of 6 banners soons to make it look more aesthetic.

AdSense for Feeds

Use AdSense for Feeds as this will also increase the visiblity of your blog posts.
Alright, lets take a break from the ‘100 Ways to Make Money Online’ Series and talk about XFactor Micro Niche Sites. If you’ve been in the AdSense money-making scene, you’ve probably heard of John XFactor’s Micro Niche AdSense Course. Lately Internet Marketing forums, for the past 6 months or so, have been rife with people talking about and jumping onto the bandwagon of creating ‘micro niche’ sites and making dollars off AdSense. Typically, micro niche sites look very much like the above site called 4 Slice Toaster. Generally content is thin and keywords targetted are extremely long-tail. The idea is to make just 1 or 2 dollars a day with one site, but make hundreds of similar sites based on different keywords or products. Once you scale this up, you can make even up to a few hundred dollars a day. I have not personally bought John’s book, but through various Internet Marketing forums you can roughly piece together an idea of what these Micro Niche site are about. There might be nuggets of information I’m missing out on in his book, but I believe this is the gist of it.

Basically, here is how it works:

Research heavily about certain low-competition keywords. Tools like

Create a tightly-SEOed website about this keyword.

Plug in your AdSense ads.

Do off-site SEO like backlinking to bring up your SERP rankings.

Wait for organic traffic to come in and hope for clicks.

There has been lots of controversy regarding this technique as people wonder if this falls into the category of ‘Made-for-AdSense’ or MFA sites, a term describing a site that has been created for the sole purpose of making revenue through the ads, and not with the intent of providing any real value. There are some who vehemently argue that this is a win-win-win situation for both the site owner, Google and the advertiser, as these clicks come from genuine potential customers, and as long as there is no click-fraud involved, nobody should be complaining. Proponents of this technique also insist that as long as your site contains relevant, helpful information about the topic, this isn’t considered MFA. However, there are others who challenge the siteowners with questions like

‘Ask yourself, what is your REAL reason for making this site? Do you actually REALLY care about 4 slice toasters? If not, aren’t you just making this site to earn revenue, hence making an MFA site?’

The debate goes on and on, because people could ask

‘Why are there websites anyway? Would someone just create a health blog entirely for fun? Isn’t there a hint of commercial intent as well?’

Personally, I think that 90% of sites with AdSense on them are, in a way, MFA. Google does not specifically describe what constitutes as MFA though. Sites like 4 Slice Toaster are clearly explicitly MFA in my opinion. Realistically, webmasters who choose to join the AdSense program obviously have intent to earn revenue, and would at some point actively or passively create content or SEO the website to maximise revenue. Isn’t this a kind of making your website MFA of sorts? Of course, the debate will never end.

There are people who swear that Google is cracking down on micro niche sites because they bring no value to the visitor. With sites like 4 Slice Toaster, I definitely agree that they bring no value and are explicitly MFA. However, as one of the most recognisable micro niche site, I can see that Google hasn’t disabled this person’s account, and the ads are still proudly displayed since many months ago. Many other people also actively blog about their journey building micro niche sites, including Sara, who stealthily and smartly markets other products as an affiliate. There are people who think that perhaps XFactor’s and Sara’s huge earning reports (as posted on her website) are fake, and are attempts at marketing other ‘make money’ products that they claim are important to achieving the same level of success as them. After all, Internet marketers are a sly bunch. Remember, their main motivation would be to ‘Internet market’, and this can take the form of whatever methods they want, as long as affiliate sales are made!

A user called clickbump also posted on the Warrior Forum proclaiming his remarkable earnings of $100+ a day, at the same time selling his products that claim to quickly build micro niche sites pertaining to the XFactor method. This is smart Internet Marketing at its best. Tell people you are doing well, and offer to help them replicate your success by selling a product. I’m not saying Sara or clickbumps are frauds though, as their earning claims can never be proven or disproven. However, if I were not earning well, and realise I could tap on people’s emotions, this seems like a good method to make money for myself. Remember that AdSense earning screenshots can be easily faked.

The controversy regarding XFactor micro niche sites can be seen on all Internet Marketing forums and blogs, including this post about Google de-indexing micro niche sites. This guy claimed that he was making a good living earning almost $100 a day, having gotten the science of micro niche sites down to a tee. And one day, all his sites got de-indexed. I’m not sure if his AdSense account got banned, but apparently a lot of people with micro niche sites are shitting their pants or sitting on the fence about this one. Are XFactor sites really dead? Is Google on to them? Is this a viable business model to come into at the time of reading of this post? I don’t know. There is this Panopticon Effect about Google that instills fear in people. Is Google going to ban me because of these sites? I have a legit site that isn’t explicity MFA though. Should I dump these micro niche sites?

My personal thoughts? I currently own 6 micro niche sites. 2 of them are earning about $0.50 to $0.70 a day. Generally they aren’t doing very well, even though more than half of them are on the first page for their respective keywords. Is the XFactor method a scam? I don’t think so. Since I am now earning income from some of my micro niche sites, technically it is POSSIBLE to scale this up and make an obscene amount of money. Perhaps I suck at keyword research? Feel free to leave comments if you have thoughts on this!
